Overview
The purpose of the McKinney-Vento Act is to provide educational services to homeless students which are equal to all other enrolled students, and ensure tha thomeless children and youth have equal opportunities to enroll in, attend, and be successful in school.

The McKinney Education for Homeless Children and Youth program provides federal funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs which serve homeless students. Annually, Washington receives between $600,000 and $800,000 in McKinney-Vento funding which is made available to local school districts serving homeless students. Competitive grants are offered annually with awards going to districts with the greatest need. This federal funding is the only money specifically designated for serving this needy population of students.
